Position:  Research (Plant) Geneticist (Postdoctoral Research Associate)

Salary: $78,861/year

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Crop Improvement and Protection Unit, Salinas, California, has two Research (Plant) Geneticist (Postdoctoral Research Associate) positions open.

The selectees will be expected to identify and characterize the mechanisms, genes, QTL, molecular markers, and traits underlying salt and drought stress tolerance in lettuce. Conduct QTL mapping and study the fatty acids, metabolome, gene expression and inheritance of salt and drought tolerance traits.  Incorporate the beneficial traits into new lettuce cultivars. Adapt, modify or develop new methods, techniques and/or tools to satisfy the needs of the research.

The positions require a Ph.D. in plant genetics, breeding, physiology, horticulture, crop science, agronomy, biological sciences or a related field. Experience and knowledge of linkage and association (GWAS) mapping, RNA-seq, methods and techniques used in studies of plant abiotic stress tolerance, fatty acid and lipidomics analyses, metabolome analyses, and softwares used in genetic/genomic/QTL mapping analyses are preferred but not required. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency of oral and written English. 

The grant-funded positions are full time not to exceed 2 years with a possibility of extension. A comprehensive benefits package is available.
