"Populations of Individuals" by SBC's own Kent Bradford
Populations of Individuals: Understanding Biological Variation from Molecules to Ecosystems
The Seed Biotechnology Center is proud to announce that the founding director of SBC, Dr. Kent Bradford, has authored the new book "Populations of Individuals" which is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2026 by Oxford University Press.
This book:
- Provides a novel, integrative concept for understanding biological variation
- Presents and elaborates on a new conceptual approach for understanding and modelling biological variation, termed the “population-based threshold” (PBT) model
- Focuses on biochemical, physiological, and developmental variation rather than on genetic variation, providing a valuable perspective for understanding how these processes function in an integrated way
- Replaces the biochemical dogma that all molecules or proteins of a given type are identical with the recognition that they vary. With this recognition, reinterpretations of fundamental data, such as the Michaelis-Menten analysis of enzyme-substrate binding, become possible
Kent Bradford announced his book at the Seed Central event on May 14, 2026 (watch the video of his presentation). He also presented for Seed Central 4 times in 2022, and links to those presentations can be found on the Seed Central website.
