Often, the concept of higher education can stray from reality. This can sometimes be a danger when attending courses. In this case, being led by true professionals who are masters in their own right, made all the difference. The course content, design and instruction was led and delivered from “training the workforce” perspective.
From a student point of view, I felt mentored. As a result, what I am taking away with me can only help, and not hinder. Although my job and the method of operating within the seed industry is different than the course content, I can and will still be able to apply what I have been able to glean. Very much appreciated.
Denise DeCosse, DL Seeds Inc.
“Value-added” – that is my take home message. This program gave me the education of how the seed business functions, from the beginning to end product that we sell to the grower. It helped me understand the decisions that are made for product development, how it gets from the field to the bag and how that product can influence the future of my company.
Mike Wheatley, Growmark FS, LLC
A broad overview of the seed industry is very helpful in terms of understanding the needs and concerns that agricultural scientists are trying to fulfill. Thank you for offering an opportunity to gain knowledge that would be very difficult to obtain otherwise.
Susan Aylward, UC Davis Open University
The program was exactly what I was expecting. It gave me a comprehensive picture of the American seed industry. It added value to me and my company. It was a great group of people with very knowledgeable instructors and guest speakers.
Alfredo Santamarina, Sanpa Semillas S.A. (Argentina)
This course helps me understand the seed business beyond research and development in a highly stimulating environment. I appreciate that the trainers shared their extensive knowledge and experience.
Eric Boudreau, Syngenta
Excellent course – all you can learn about seed industry in 5 days, and more!
Cyrill Zagar, BASF Corporation
Seed Business 101 is a great tool for expanding your knowledge into other jobs and responsibilities in the seed industry. It’s great cross-training that provides a more comprehensive understanding of the business and of other team member responsibilities.
Andrew Zalar, Growmark FS, LLC
The SB 101 class was well set up and executed by the instructors. This class will give students experience that is hard to come by. Seminars or books cannot do the same good as SB 101. Real life situations are addressed and very serious issues are a couple of things the class tackles. You will get your money’s worth if you take the class seriously.
Ben Peterson, Peterson Genetics, Inc.
One of the most important jobs I have is to manage our process and delivering our hybrids to market to meet seed and oil customer needs. This course will help me ask better questions to my breeders, seed and commercial product managers. I expect this course to directly improve the quality of my management and hence the function of our team.
